In the spirit of Remembrance Day, this one-hour, November 12, 2025 webinar shed new light on Icelandic-Canadians' contributions to World War 1 and relations between Icelanders and the Canadian Armed Forces in Iceland during World War II.

Key insights were shared from the ongoing PhD research of Canadian and Icelandic scholars Madison Herget-Schmidt, University of Manitoba, and Karen Lilja Loftsdóttir, Queen's University, respectively. The presentations and subsequent Q&A with online participants were moderated by Jeff Noakes, Ph.D., Historian, Second World War, Canadian War Museum.

This event was the latest in an ongoing series of webinars organized by the embassies of Canada in Reykjavík and Iceland in Ottawa. In addition to our main speakers, the webinar will also include remarks by Canada's Ambassador to Iceland, Jenny Hill and Iceland's Ambassador to Canada, Hlynur Guðjónsson.
