Anniversary logo competition: 70 years of diplomatic relations between Iceland and Japan

In 2026 Japan and Iceland celebrate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The objective of this competition is to create a commemorative logo marking the anniversary, to be used jointly by both countries across official communications and events. The competition is organised and administered by the Embassy of Iceland in Tokyo.

Eligibility

Open call for submissions from graphic designers and design students based in Japan and Iceland, with a particular emphasis on design students at university level.

Design brief

  • Reflect 70 years of friendship and cooperation between Iceland and Japan
  • Incorporate design elements that resonate with both countries
  • Ensure suitability for official diplomatic use (print and digital)

Rights and use

Copyright and trademark rights will belong to the Icelandic side, and the logo will be available for both countries' Ministries and Embassies for official use.

Submission

Please submit your entry by 10 February in pdf format, A4 size along with a short text highlighting the idea behind the logo. Entries shall be submitted to tokyo[at]mfa.is with name, background and contact information to be included in the email.

Prize

  • One winning entry, announced in March
  • Prize awarded by the Embassy of Iceland in Tokyo: JPY 150,000 or 125.000 ISK

Selection Process

Final selection will be made by a committee with representatives from Iceland and Japan.

Please note that submissions that contain any of the following will be disqualified:

  1. content that is offensive,
  2. content that violates or might violate laws,
  3. content promoting political or religious groups or positions,
  4. content that is culturally or socially insensitive,
  5. content that is for commercial purposes.
